Karkulka is a service offering shared cars for the inhabitants of Pilsen and its surroundings.

What’s the aim of the project?

To offer a simpler and often more economical alternative to car ownership.

An average passenger car is in operation only 5% of the time, but owning one still entails significant fixed costs. For drivers who drive less than 10,000 kilometers a year, it is more cost-effective to use shared cars. In addition, users of shared cars needn’t worry about technical or administrative issues connected with taking care of their own vehicle.

At the same time, car sharing is intended to help slow down the trend of the growing number of cars
in the city. Thanks to more efficient use of vehicles, each shared car will replace up to ten privately owned ones. Therefore, with the sufficient application of this service, an improvement of problems
with parking can be expected as well.

What’s the result of the project?

On the streets of Pilsen, you can easily book these red shared cars – all you need is an on-line registration through a mobile or web application – and use them for trips all over the EU. At the end of the ride, the user only pays for the time and mileage.

More than 400 users registered for the service during the first months. The average use of cars
is constantly growing and currently exceeds 4 hours a day for each vehicle.
